Why GCES is different

Testing matched to the equipment

Appropriate test methods, useful records and condition insights for equipment that deserves more than a routine pass/fail process.

Equipment-specific methods

Test selection reflects the equipment’s construction, electronics and operating environment rather than applying one routine blindly.

Condition insights beyond the tag

Level 1 thermography can identify unusual surface-temperature patterns in suitable operating equipment and support a clear recommendation for further investigation.

Direct service and useful records

Jim performs the work and provides asset identification, applicable readings, outcomes, defect notes and retest dates.

Choose on evidence, not price alone

Questions to ask your Test & Tag provider

A tag shows a date and outcome. These questions help establish the quality of the work behind it.

  • How do you keep your technical knowledge current?
  • Do you complete ongoing professional development and annual refresher training?
  • Will the test method be selected for the equipment?
  • Is your test equipment currently calibrated?
  • Will every result be recorded in an asset register?
  • How are failed or unusual results explained and escalated?
  • Are you appropriately licensed and insured for the work?

Scaled to suit the site

A practical service, sized for your business

Small jobs receive straightforward minimum pricing. Larger workplaces receive a clear site-specific quote and a testing plan designed to minimise disruption.

01

Portable appliance testing

Class I and Class II appliances, office equipment, chargers, kitchen appliances, leads and power boards.

02

Workshop equipment

Power tools, extension leads, portable RCDs and selected plug-connected three-phase equipment, quoted to suit access and complexity.

03

Sensitive equipment

Careful method selection for IT, audio, electronic and other voltage-sensitive equipment—without treating every appliance as if it were identical.

04

Useful records

A clear asset report, failed-item notes and retest dates—so you know what was checked and what needs attention.

05

Microwave leakage screening

Visual safety checks and a measured survey around accessible door, seal and enclosure areas, with the maximum observed reading recorded for your asset register. This is separate from the electrical Test & Tag result and is not a compliance certificate.

06

Managed compliance

Asset histories, due-date tracking and retest reminders help keep recurring equipment checks organised instead of relying on someone noticing an expired tag.

Supporting capability

Level 1 thermography

Thermal and visible images can help identify unusual surface-temperature patterns in suitable operating equipment such as plugs, power boards, chargers, computers, motors and pumps.

Clear limit: thermography indicates patterns for further investigation; it does not identify the cause or form part of an AS/NZS 3760 pass/fail result. GCES inspects safely accessible external surfaces only—no switchboards, fixed wiring or removal of electrical covers.

Available where useful

A brief observation may be included during Test & Tag when meaningful and safe. Documented thermographic inspections with thermal and reference images are quoted separately.

Clear licence boundaries

The right work—and the right handoff

GCES stays within its authorised scope and stops when a job requires fixed-wiring access, switchboard work or another trade.

✓ Within GCES scope

Portable, plug-connected equipment, detachable leads, power boards and portable RCDs only, microwave leakage screening, plus non-invasive thermography of safely accessible equipment and surface areas.

✕ Referred work

No opening switchboards, testing fixed wiring or installation RCDs, altering wiring or undertaking work outside the exact licence endorsement.

Quick counting guide

What counts as a standard test/tag?

One separately testable mains-powered appliance or removable mains component equals one test/tag record. The electrical checks used within that record are not charged separately.

  • Kettle with fixed lead1 test/tag
  • Extension lead or standard power board1 test/tag
  • Monitor plus detachable IEC lead2 test/tags
  • Laptop power supply plus detachable mains lead2 test/tags
  • Desktop computer, 2 monitors and 3 detachable mains leads6 test/tags
PC workstation cost: six additional test/tags cost $36 at $6 each. If it is the only equipment on a visit, the $165 minimum site service applies and includes all six. If the site already has 15 included standard test/tags, adding this workstation makes the total $201 incl. GST.

Portable RCDs, three-phase equipment, microwave screening and complex equipment use separate specialist pricing. If unsure, choose “Not sure” and describe the equipment.
